It’s funny how certain moments can feel like they are frozen in time. My summers home from college were spent working as a Pool Attendant at the country club amenities center where my parents live. I then worked as the club’s Recreation Coordinator for the 10 months leading up to my wedding once I had graduated from college. Fast forward several years and I took a position at the same club as their Lifestyle Director and we relocated up to Columbia, South Carolina from South Georgia. Many of the members and residents I had met during my time working those college summers couldn’t quite grasp that I was 5-7 years older from when they first met me. I always thought it was weird they couldn’t remember I was no longer the ‘kid’ they referred to. But now I get it. Looking at the social media posts of the members and residents I’ve stayed connected with since my resignation to be a stay-at-home-mom, I see their kids growing into teenagers, high school graduates and thriving college students. To me they are still the crazy rugrats that used to run around the pool deck all those years ago. But time marches on.
Same goes for the day Brad and I got engaged, exactly 10 years ago today. It feels like it was yesterday we were walking the streetlamp lit path on River Street down away from the restaurants and shops, and though my sleep is much more interrupted now, I don’t feel much older than I did then either.
So in honor of our engagement-iversary, #ThrowbackThursday and 2020, I’m sharing a glance through the last decade:

Did you notice how the anniversary trips ceased with the arrival of kids? We are really hoping to spend a weekend away this March to reset as a couple and then once Brad’s schedule allows during the summertime, we hope to plan a longer getaway. We’re thinking of a week long adventure to multiple cities like Boston, Chicago and New York City, possibly Washington DC or going big and booking an all-inclusive down in the Caribbean. Where do you think we should go?
In 2020, I’m looking forward to continuing to watch my girls grow, be more intentional about date night time with Brad, reach my postpartum health goal I’ve been working toward, explore new adventure destinations, take too many pictures and create lifelong memories. What are you looking forward to?
